Do kids today still believe in Santa?
Ah, the million-dollar question: "Do kids these days still believe in Santa Claus?" That’s a tricky question, isn’t it?
Sometimes, when I’m out and about (disguised, of course, as I don’t want to ruin the mystery!), I hear whispers. “Santa isn’t real.” Some kids ask questions like, "How does Santa make it to every house in one night?" or "Why does Santa look so different at the mall?"
Gone are the days when the jolly man in red was simply accepted without question. Today’s kids are detectives. They peek under wrapping paper, scour Google and ask Alexa for answers, and interrogate their parents like seasoned reporters. And don’t get me started on the elf-on-the-shelf surveillance system! Sometimes I think I’m the one being watched!
But even with their curious minds, kids have a beautiful knack for holding onto the magic. They want to believe and that’s the real secret
Today there are plenty of movies and shows that create explainations these things and add a little imagination and magic to the Santa phenomenon.
Even with all their skepticism, their curiosity, and their clever little schemes to “catch Santa in the act,” the magic for kids hasn’t disappeared. It’s just changed shape.
Belief in Santa has evolved over the years
Kids today might not always believe in Santa the way children did a hundred years ago, but they believe in something.
Just as kids today are inundated with fictional characters that create a magical world for them, Santa is no different.
Santa creates a magical world for kids where they can believe in the magic, wonder, and the pure joy of imagining something extraordinary. And while today’s kids might be savvier than ever (seriously, some of these little ones could teach me a thing or two about tech!), the magic of Santa is still alive and well.
The character of Santa is more than just one jolly old guy shimmying down chimneys. It’s about the playfulness, the stories, the imagination, the sharing, and waking up on Christmas morning with gifts under the tree, a cozy home filled with laughter, family togetherness and love and maybe a sprinkling of cookie crumbs left behind.
So yes, I believe kids still believe in Santa Claus, not in the "real" sense, but in the magical phenomenon the character has come to embody for kids and adults around the world.
My kids never believed in Santa Claus any more than they believed in Superman or Mickey Mouse. They played along with the fun, imaginative, playful character and brought Santa to life during the holiday season. And seeing the wonder and joy of imagining that something extraordinary could come to life in the true magic of the season, is the kind of belief that never goes away.
Now if you'll excuse me, Mrs. Clause has some presents to wrap!
