A Foodie’s Love Letter to the Juiciest, Custard-iest, Most Unapologetically Delicious Month of the Year

Let me just say this upfront: August, I’m in love with you.

Not because you’re hot (okay, fine, you are 98 degrees and humidity like a sauna blanket), but because you are dripping with flavor. You’re the month that shows up late to the summer party wearing a sundress made of pie crust, sipping a root beer float through a striped straw, and casually juggling peaches like a fruit-flavored circus performer.

August, you’re not just a month. You’re a full-on food festival with a side of nostalgia and a cherry on top. And as someone who measures life in dessert spoons and bite-sized moments, I’m here to tell you, August is going to be legendary.

🥧 August 1: The Month Starts with Pie. Obviously.

We don’t ease into August. We launch into it, straight into Homemade Pie Day and Raspberry Cream Pie Day, like we’re diving into a pool filled with meringue and sweet summer berries.

I celebrate by making a pie that looks nothing like the photo on the box (lattice top? More like abstract art), but it will still taste great! With a scoop of vanilla ice cream melting into the cracks?

DOGust, the universal birthday for shelter dogs, so I may feed my golden retriever a tiny bite of crust. Don’t judge.

🍦 August 2: Ice Cream Sandwich Day

More Like Ice Cream Sandwich EVERYTHING Day. I don’t care if it’s 95°F and my sunglasses are melting, I will not be denied my cookie-and-ice-cream hug.

I go full mad scientist: Cookies: Double chocolate brownie Ice cream: Salted caramel with fudge ripple Extra flair: Dipped in rainbow sprinkles. Also, Sunflower Day is today, so I why not eat it in a field of sunflowers.

🍪 August 4: Chocolate Chip Cookie Day & White Wine Day

A Match Made in Snack Heaven. This is the night to bake a fresh batch of cookies, slightly underbaked, because gooey is godly, and even better with a glass of crisp white wine. The buttery sweetness of the cookie, the citrusy zing of the wine, it’s like your taste buds throw a tiny party and everyone shows up wearing sunglasses.

Also, it is Coast Guard Day, so how about a toast to them with a glass of wine. “To heroes who rescue people and probably also love cookies.” Solid.

🍨 August 8: Frozen Custard Day

The Creamier, Richer, More Dramatic Cousin of Ice Cream

Let’s be real: frozen custard doesn’t ask for attention. It demands it. Thicker. Silkier. More eggy. It’s ice cream with a PhD in decadence. It is also International Cat Day, so why not create your own flavor and name your custard flavor “Meow-garita Swirl.” It doesn't exist, but it should.

🔥 August 10: S’Mores Day — And Snoopy’s Birthday!

Today we honor the beagle of our hearts and the gooey marshmallow of our dreams. Make s’mores with: Dark chocolate + graham crackers,  Peanut butter-stuffed marshmallows (yes, they’re a thing) and one with Nutella and banana, because why not elevate?

🍑 August 22: Eat a Peach Day & Burger Day

So, Naturally, Do Both!

Bite into a ripe, juice-dripping peach like you are in a fruit commercial. Then lick your fingers like a wild animal. No regrets!

And then, the burger. Juicy, smoky, topped with your favorites. Mine will be caramelized onions, mushrooms and smothered with cheese. Perfection.

🍌 August 25: Banana Split Day

The Most Extra Dessert of All Time

This isn’t just a dessert. It’s a lifestyle. Three scoops (chocolate, vanilla, strawberry), whipped cream, cherries, nuts, pineapple, fudge, and a maraschino cherry crown. It’s the prom queen of sundaes. Make it extra fun and go vintage and serve it in a retro glass boat dish. 

🍷 August 31: Eat Outside Day & Trail Mix Day

The Grand Finale Day

So I will pack a picnic basket and include a jar of custom trail mix: dark chocolate chunks, wasabi peas (for drama), coconut flakes, and one lucky gummy bear. Then find the perfect outside spot and spread a blanket and enjoy. No rush. No agenda. Just me, the sky, and the sweet, crunchy, melty, juicy, glorious taste of August.

 

So Here’s to August 2025

To the pies, the custards, the peaches that drip down your arm like summer tears of joy. To the cookies, the s’mores, the burgers that make you close your eyes and whisper “thank you.”

To the holidays that give us permission to celebrate food like it’s the main character, because in August, it absolutely is.

So grab a spoon.
Fire up the grill.
Wear your silliest hat to breakfast.
And eat something delicious.

Because August is happening right now, and it tastes like victory, sugar, and a little bit of nostalgia. 🍓🍦🍑🍌🍫
