Strength of a Gymnast Day: Inspired by the GOAT Simone Biles
Body First

If you are like most people who watch the Olympic Games in awe of the gymnasts who showcase their athletism and graceful skill every 4 years as one of the most watched and anticipated events, then you know who Simone Biles is.

Simone Biles is considered a GOAT (greatest of all time) in the sport of gymnastics. And even though she appears to be perfect, she is human, and when she broke down mentally during the 2020 olympic games, she made a tough choice to sit out. The strength it took to make this decision only emphasizes why she is the GOAT.

This day, Strength of a Gymnast Day, is designated to honor the strength we all need from time to time. Not only the physical strength, but the mental strength to make the right cchoices. There is no better symbol of this strength than Simone Biles, whose journey has inspired countless women and athletes around the world.

Inspiration Holiday - March 14th - The Strength of a Gymnast Day

Simone Biles has been a symbol of excellence in gymnastics for most people since 2016. I vividly remember watching her dominate the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where she won five gold medals. Each routine was a testament to her incredible skill, power, and perfection. Watching her perform was nothing short of mesmerizing. The mental focus it takes as she moved with grace and confidence is nothing short of awe-inspiring. As someone who participated in this sport through my high school years, I understand how hard it is to be that perfect and that focused.

The Challenges of 2020

When the COVID-19 pandemic struck, it threw the world into chaos, and the delay of the 2020 Olympics was a huge disappointment for athletes and fans alike. The anticipation built up over four years was suddenly extended, and the uncertainty weighed heavily on everyone.

When the Olympics finally took place in 2021, the world watched with bated breath. Simone’s decision to withdraw from several events due to her mental health was a shock to many, but it also highlighted a critical issue that often goes unspoken in the world of elite sports. Her courage to prioritize her well-being over competition was a powerful statement. It made me, and many others, respect and admire her even more. Simone showed us that strength is not just about physical athleticism but also about having the wisdom and courage to take care of oneself.

The Return of a Champion

Seeing Simone get back in the gym and fight the demons in her head and the twisties that were plaguing her mind, was nothing short of inspirational. Her resilience and determination to come back after such a challenging period proved her unparalleled strength. Simone’s return was not just about competing again but about reclaiming her joy and passion for the sport. It was a testament to her spirit and served as a powerful reminder that setbacks do not define us. It's how we rise from them that does.

Why Strength of a Gymnast Day?

I created Strength of a Gymnast Day based on an article I wrote after the 2020 Olympics, Simone Biles, the True Strength of a Woman. Our team believes that someone who has the true strength of a woman, like Simone Biles, who proved strength both inside and out, deserves to have a day to be celebrated.

This day is not just about athletic achievements but also about the mental fortitude required to face immense pressure and adversity. Simone Biles’ journey encapsulates these qualities perfectly. She has inspired a generation of athletes to prioritize their mental health, and she has shown the world that true strength lies in self-awareness and self-care.

Her journey from the heights of Olympic glory to the challenges of mental health and back again is a narrative of resilience, courage, and unwavering determination. Watching her compete and grow as an individual has been a privilege and an inspiration.

Strength of a Gymnast Day is a tribute to Simone Biles and all gymnasts who push the boundaries of what is possible while remaining true to themselves. It also celebrates you! It's a day to recognize the importance of your mental strength in every endeavor and take care of yourself.
