Constitution Day in the Ukraine celebrates the adoption of a new Constitution of Independence on June 28, 1996. Independence was gained in 1991 from the former Soviet Union. The new constitution is more progressive for freedoms and human rights and is celebrated as a national holiday to honor the changes.
