Easter Sunday is one of the most important, and festive, holiday in Guatemala, for it celebrates the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Easter Sunday is the end of the Semana Santa, or ‘Holy Week’ and many Guatemalan Catholics make the day feel like a large-scale celebration party.

How Guatemalans Celebrate Easter Sunday

While Holy Saturday is a day of mourning, Easter Sunday is a day of joy. The air is filled with a positive vibe and you will often see people smiling and laughing. The processions continue as children wave small flags in their hands. To end the celebration, the night sky, much like with other festive holidays in Guatemala, is filled with colorful and loud fireworks.
