Several States in the U.S. Celebrate an Independence Day or Statehood Day when the state became independent from another country and/or joined the Union and became part of the U.S. 

 

Kamehameha Day is a Hawaiian state holiday that celebrates King Kamehameha the Great. Kamehameha was famous for unifying the islands of Hawaii to create the Kingdom of Hawaii. He implemented many laws to improve the lives of Hawaiians and increased trade coming into Hawaii. Today, he is celebrated with several floral parades that take place throughout Hawaii. Another tradition involves draping leis over Kamehameha’s statues.
