Holidays & Observances in The Democratic Republic of the Congo

The Democratic Republic of the Congo (formerly Zaire and aka Congo-Kinshasa, DR Congo, the DRC, the DROC, or the Congo) is a country located in Central Africa. It is made up of over two hundred different tribes with different cultures and languages, though many of them follow Christianity. Kimbanguism is a branch of Christianity that is often mixed with indigenous beliefs and is practiced by many people around the country. Recent civil unrest and genocide has lead the People's Republic of Congo to be one of the poorest countries in the world, and therefore holiday celebrations have been largely muted in recent times.
