Holidays & Observances in Peru

Peru is a Spanish-speaking country in western South America. It is a country with many different cultural influences. The indigenous people of Peru, including the Incas, were greatly diminished by the arrival of the Spanish, but their culture still defines the country’s identity along with Spanish and some African culture. Religiously, most Peruvians are Christian, and the Christian holidays are celebrated throughout the country. Those celebrations are sometimes mixed with traditions from indigenous festivals and religious celebrations. One traditional Incan celebration called Inti Raymi is still celebrated each year.
