Beach Sports & Surf Culture Month
Celebrated Every July
July is sunshine, salt air, movement, and momentum. Beach Sports & Surf Culture Month celebrates the joy of active shorelines, from surf breaks and paddle races to sand volleyball and lifeguard traditions.
Created by Patti Jewel, founder of Walk in the Sand, this month continues her global mission of celebrating and appreciating the world’s beaches. Patti also created Walk in the Sand Day, World Beach Day, and World Beach Month, honoring beaches not only as places of beauty, but places of energy, community, and culture.
July reminds us: beaches are where movement meets freedom.
🏄♀️ The Spirit of Surf Culture
Surf culture is more than riding waves, it’s a lifestyle rooted in:
-
Respect for the ocean
-
Community and camaraderie
-
Environmental awareness
-
Creative self-expression
-
Rhythm with nature
From dawn patrol surfers to sunset paddleboarders, the shoreline becomes a shared arena of adventure.
Historic surf destinations like Waikiki Beach, Bondi Beach, and Huntington Beach helped shape modern beach sport culture blending athleticism, artistry, and ocean respect.
