HIV Awareness Month

July is National HIV Awareness Month

This monthly holiday was designated in 2012 by the International AIDS committee in the United States to help raise awareness about the importance of HIV testing and treatment. 

The purpose of this monthly observance was to both reeducate the public on the threat of HIV and AIDS and encourage private investors to focus and attack this problem. This monthly observance has only been celebrated one time.

About HIV

HIV or human immunodeficiency virus is a virus that eventually develops into AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome). It is a disease that is spread through bodily fluids such as blood. The HIV virus does not pose a direct threat to the body but instead attacks white blood cells (CD4 cells), which are vital to the immune system of the body and defending against illness. In order to take part in this monthly observance, one can take a more active approach towards the HIV virus itself and help support HIV treatment, therapy, or experimental cures.
