Trisomy Awareness Month
March is Trisomy Awareness Month. Trisomy is a genetic disorder in which a person has three copies of a chromosome instead of two. It often causes mental or physical problems depending on where the extra copies of the chromosome lie. Trisomy 21 more common than most of the other varieties and is associated with Down syndrome. Some trisomy variations raise a 50% chance of miscarriage. When comapred to trisomies in the autosomal chromosomes, trisomies in the sex chromosomes normally have less severe consequences, and these Individuals may show few or no symptoms and have a normal life expectancy
