Blue Planet Seaside Gratitude Month
Celebrated Every November
November is a time of reflection and there is no greater gift to reflect upon than our blue planet.
Blue Planet Seaside Gratitude Month is a global celebration of thankfulness for the oceans, beaches, and coastal communities that sustain life on Earth.
Created by Patti Jewel, founder of Walk in the Sand, this month continues her mission of celebrating and appreciating the world’s beaches year-round. Patti also created Walk in the Sand Day, World Beach Day, and World Beach Month, encouraging people everywhere to honor the shoreline as a place of beauty, healing, and connection.
November invites us to pause at the water’s edge and say: thank you.
💙 Gratitude for the Ocean Matters
Our planet is more than 70% ocean.
The sea:
-
Produces over half of the world’s oxygen
-
Regulates global climate
-
Supports fisheries and food systems
-
Provides livelihoods for coastal communities
-
Inspires art, culture, and recreation
Without healthy oceans, there are no healthy beaches and no healthy planet.
Gratitude is the first step toward stewardship.
Coastal Places That Remind Us to Be Thankful
Around the world, breathtaking shorelines remind us of Earth’s beauty:
-
Great Barrier Reef – A living marine wonder visible from space
-
Galapagos Islands – A cradle of biodiversity
-
Outer Banks – Wild dunes shaped by wind and tide
-
Cliffs of Moher – Atlantic power meeting stone
-
Cape Town – Where two oceans meet
Each coastline offers a different language of gratitude from coral gardens, tidal flats, rocky cliffs, and sandy shores that all share the same ocean heartbeat.

🌍 How This Month Unites the World
November’s spirit of gratitude transcends borders.
A fisherman in Indonesia…
A beach walker in California…
A child building sandcastles in Brazil…
A researcher studying reefs in Australia…
All rely on the same global ocean.
When one coastline suffers, the planet feels it.
When one community protects its shores, the planet benefits.
Blue Planet Seaside Gratitude Month reminds us that stewardship is shared responsibility.
🙏 The Power of Gratitude
Gratitude shifts perspective:
-
From taking beaches for granted → to protecting them
-
From seeing waves as scenery → to recognizing them as life systems
-
From isolation → to global connection
The ocean does not belong to one nation.
It connects every nation.
💙 Reflection
Stand on any beach in November.
Listen to the tide.
Feel the wind.
The same water touching your feet has traveled the world.
Be thankful.
Be mindful.
Be a guardian of our blue planet.
