Peace Festival

Augsburg

The Peace Festival is celebrated in Augsburg Germany each year. It celebrates the reinstatement of religious freedom in the city of Augsburg. In 1629, Protestants were banned from publically practicing their faith by the Catholic majority. The ban was lifted and the peace was restored in 1648. This holiday has been observed every year since 1650, and it still has a special place in the hearts of the Augsburg people. Today it is a public holiday including an art competition for children to create something that represents peace and a special church service.
