Songkran

Songkran is a Thai Buddhist festival that goes on for several days from April 13 - 15. It's a spring cleaning when people clean their houses and wash their clothes. They sprinkle perfumed water on the monks, novices and other people for at least two or three days to celebrate cleansing and refreshing.

Because it is so hot in April, many people gather around the riverbank, carrying fishes in jars to save them from the ponds drying out. People go to the beach or river bank with jars or buckets of water and splash each other and enjoy the boat races and fun day on the river.
