Background of Argyle Day

Argyle, or sometimes spelled ‘Argyll’, is most commonly referred to as the overall pattern made of diamonds or lozenges. The word ‘argyle’ sometimes indicates a single diamond within a design. Typically seen in the pattern is an overlay of intercrossing diagonal lines on solid diamonds. The design became so popular, even outside of its origin in Scotland, that it was eventually granted its own holiday.
