Calzone Day is a food holiday that is designated to recognize this most delicious Italian food. A Calzone an oven baked folded pizza typically filled with cheeses and may include veggies and meats. 

Calzones are Italian originating from Naples, Italy, where the innovation of a folded pizza started as a way to serve and eat pizza more casually while standing or walking. This more portable pizza derivative became popular and is now served at most Italian and pizza restaurants. 

Some may confuse a calzone and stromboli because they are similar. The differences are in the way they are folded, sealed and stuffed. While they share similar meat and veggie filling options, most often, a calzone does not include the sauce inside, but includes a dipping sauce on the side. Calzones also typically include ricotta cheese in combination with other cheeses.
