By creating this holiday, Pesek hoped to inspire people to bring happiness to the lives of others, particularly the isolated. It is reported that Pesek got this idea from nursing home patients and other people in solitary situations.

The best way to honor this day is right in its name- cheer up the lonely!

If you suspect someone in your life is lonesome, this is the perfect day to make them feel seen. You can spend time together by taking them out on the town, going to their favorite restaurant, or just sitting with them. Sending a postcard or writing an email are great ways to get the good vibes out, too! Make sure to look outside of your circle.
