Cotton candy, also called candy floss or fairy floss, is a treat that seems almost magical in its creation. The only required ingredient is sugar, though flavoring and food coloring are often added. Simply heating and spinning the sugar causes it to reheat in the airy, cloudlike shape we know and love. Cotton candy first gained popularity at the 1904 World's Fair when it was sold as Fairy Floss. To this day the sweet treat is still popular at fairs and carnivals all around the world.
