Day of Older Persons (International)

International Day of Older Persons is October 1st

Older people play an important role in our society and in our families. According to the UN website, by 2050, there will be more people over the age of 60 than there will be children. Protecting our elders and making sure older people in this world are treated fairly is of utmost concern as people live longer lives than ever before. This day was designated by the United Nations as a day for nations to recognize the older people and the importance of their roles in society and the need to protect their rights. 

Ways you can Celebrate this day:

• Start a program in your community to create activities for older people.
• Teach your children and family members the importance of caring for and respecting elders.
• Invite older friends and family over for game night.
• Enjoy a meal with someone retired.
• Teach your older friends or grandparents how to do something new on their cell phone. 
• Get advise from an older person.
