What is Dried Fruit?

Dried Fruit is fruit where most of the water content has been removed. This is accomplished naturally with the sun, or with a dehydrator or other drying method. Drying fruit dates back to Mesopotamia where the process prolonged the life of fruits allowing them to be preserved longer. 

Today, dried fruits are a common snack with the most popular being raisins. Other fruits that are becoming more common dried fruits are dates, figs, prunes, apricots, apples, pears, peaches, cherries, strawberries, pineapple, kiwi, cranberries, and blueberries. But be aware that some of these may contain added sweeteners to subdue the sourness of the fruit.
