Celebrate Earth Hour and turn off your lights for 1 hour! 

Earth Hour isn’t a full day holiday since it only lasts an hour. It is just one hour of focusing on the Earth and making it a better place to live. It happens each year at 8:30-9:30 PM in March, usually on a Saturday. The date is determined by The World Wide Fund for Nature, the organization that started Earth Hour in 2007. The idea of Earth Hour is to turn the lights out for an hour to raise awareness for the Earth's climate and some of the issues currently affecting it.

Many nations around the world participate in this event. Some of the largest global landmark buildings will be joining in to show support including the Australia's Sydney Opera Hours, China's Beijing Phoenix Center, Germany's Brandenburg Gate, Italy's Colosseum, Brazil's Christ the Redeemer, and the U.S. Empire State Building. 

How to Celebrate Earth Hour

This is an easy holiday to celebrate, simply turn off the lights from 8:30 - 9:30pm in your time zone and enjoy an hour of darkness for the sake of our beloved planet. 

This is the perfect time to spend with family, friends, in solitude and/or in nature. Here's a few suggestions: 

• take a walk in nature, park or around your neighborhood
• go to the beach, park, or lake and enjoy the beauty around you
• hang out with a friend or loved one and spend an hour chatting
• play a board game by candlelight
• plan a candlelit dinner
• 21 and older, enjoy a candlelit cocktail
• meditate or do yoga outside
• plan a workout outside
• stargaze
• make a bonfire
• set up a tent in the backyard and spend the hour doing any of the above inside the tent

The WWF website has some awesome ideas for ways to celebrate earth hour and ways to support the cause beyond the hour. While they mention watching movies and video chats, we recommend trying to keep technology to a minimum and just enjoying nature.
