Fajita Day

Fajita Day is August 18th

Today is Fajita day, a day to celebrate one of the most popular dishes in the United States. Fajitas are a Tex-Mex dish made of strips of beef or chicken that are marinated in a spicy sauce and then grilled. They are often served with tortillas, salsa, guacamole, and sour cream.

Fajitas were first created in the 1930s in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. The original fajitas were made with grilled beef, but chicken and other meats are now also common. Fajitas became popular in the United States in the 1980s, when Tex-Mex restaurants began to serve them.

To make your own fajitas at home, you will need:

-1 pound of beef or chicken

-1 tablespoon of olive oil

-1 lime

-1 teaspoon of chili powder

-1 teaspoon of cumin

-1 teaspoon of paprika

-½ teaspoon of salt

-¼ teaspoon of black pepper

-2 cloves of garlic, minced

-1 onion, sliced

-2 bell peppers, sliced

-1 tablespoon of chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions:

1. In a large resealable bag, combine the beef or chicken, olive oil, lime juice, chili powder, cumin, paprika, salt, pepper, and garlic. Seal the bag and mix everything together until the meat is evenly coated.

2. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat.

3. Add the onion and bell peppers to the bag and mix everything together again.

4. Grill the beef or chicken, onions, and peppers for 10-15 minutes, or until the meat is cooked through and the vegetables are slightly charred.

5. Remove from the grill and let cool for a few minutes.

6. Serve with tortillas, salsa, guacamole, and sour cream. Enjoy!
