Freethinker's Day is January 29th

Freethinkers Day celebrates the freethinkers of the past and present. Freethinkers were extremely influential in starting the movements that lead to both the American and the French revolutions. Their ideals have been put into practice by many modern governments, especially the idea that religion and government should be disconnected. The holiday is celebrated on the birthday of Thomas Paine, an important freethought figure born on January 29, 1737.

Thomas Paine authored books and pamphlets, including The Age of Reason, The Rights of Man, and Common Sense gained a mass audience for the liberating philosophy of the Enlightenment.

Truthseeker magazine and the Thomas Paine Foundation began celebrating Freethinkers Day on Thomas Paine's birthday in 1990 in order to educate the public on the importance of Thomas Paine in the history of freedom.
