What is Geocaching

How did Geocaching start?

Geocaching was started in 2000 by a man named Dave Ulmer. He wanted to test the accuracy of GPS devices by hiding a cache and seeing if anyone could find it using the coordinates. The first cache was found just three days after it was hidden, and the game of geocaching was born!

Since then, geocaching has grown into a worldwide phenomenon with millions of caches hidden all over the world.

What do I need to start geocaching?

All you need to start geocaching is a GPS device or a smartphone with GPS capabilities. You’ll also need to create a free account on a geocaching website like Geocaching.com.

Once you have an account, you can start searching for caches in your area. Each cache has a listing on the website that includes the coordinates, a description of the cache, and sometimes hints to help you find it.

When you find a cache, you sign the log book and return the cache to its hiding spot. Then you can log your find on the website and share your experience with other geocachers.
