Ingredients:

1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1/4 cup molasses
2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a baking sheet with butter or cooking spray.

2. In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the eggs and molasses.

3. Combine the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt; gradually add to the butter mixture, mixing until just blended.

4. Roll the dough into balls, then flatten each ball with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.

5. Place the cookies on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until lightly browned. Let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
