Global Handwashing Day is October 15th

Global Handwashing Day is an annual global campaign to motivate and mobilize people to improve their hand hygiene. The day, which is held on October 15th, aims to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of handwashing with soap as a key way to prevent diseases. In addition to raising awareness, the day also seeks to promote and celebrate best practices in handwashing.

Handwashing with soap is one of the most effective ways to prevent the spread of disease. It is particularly important in preventing the spread of diarrheal diseases and respiratory infections, which are leading causes of death among children under the age of five. Yet, despite the known benefits of handwashing, many people do not wash their hands with soap at key moments during the day.

Global Handwashing Day was first launched in 2008 by the Global Handwashing Partnership, a coalition of public, private, and civil society organizations dedicated to increasing awareness and understanding of handwashing with soap as a key way to prevent disease. The day is now celebrated in over 100 countries around the world.

Each year, Global Handwashing Day focuses on a different theme to help guide activities and raise awareness about the importance of handwashing with soap.
