International Day of Sign Languages is observed September 23 annually designated by the United Nations from a proposal from the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) representing deaf people's human rights worldwide. This day commemorates the date that the WFD was established in 1951 marking the birth of an advocacy to preserve sign languages and deaf culture.
