The second Saturday in June celebrates Marina Day.  Marina operators offer diverse services, amenities and prices, so it's important to research your options before settling on a marina and today is a day to consider your options. 

The basic services offered by most marinas include slips for boats of various sizes, fueling stations, and pump-out facilities. Some marinas also offer dry storage for boats, as well as launch services. Other amenities that may be available at a marina include laundry facilities, showers, swimming pools, restaurants and barbecues.

When choosing a marina, it's important to consider the location and the type of boating you'll be doing. If you're an avid fisherman, for example, you'll want to choose a marina that's located near good fishing grounds. If you enjoy sailing, you'll want to make sure the marina can accommodate your boat and has the necessary facilities, such as a mast-stepping service.

Marinas typically charge by the foot for slip rental, with prices varying depending on the size of the slip and the location of the marina. Some marinas also charge a monthly or annual fee for amenities such as laundry and swimming pool access.

Be sure to ask about discounts when you're inquiring about slips at a marina. Some operators offer discounts for long-term stays, and many offer discounts to boaters who belong to certain organizations, such as the Coast Guard Auxiliary or the American Legion.
