National Hat Day is January 15th

Hats come in all shapes, sizes, and styles. National Hat Day, is the day that lets us look onto the varying styles of hats to show our individuality and give a tip of our hats to the history of our famous headgear.

History of Hats

One of the first images of a person with a hat is a painting in Thebes tomb. The painting depicted a man with a simple straw hat. It looked like a mushroom cap with a folded top, which was given to slaves who were freed. Because of that, it was called “Liberty Hat” during French Revolution. As time went on, hats were used to show and maintain social status within groups of men before the 1960s. However, as time passed this practice soon went away and hats are nowadays worn in casual wear.
