Pig Day is March 1st

Celebrate Pig day in appreciation of the domesticated pig. Pigs are adorable in their animated characters and in real life, they may not seem as cute. But when they are domesticated, they can be quite cute and are underestimated in their intelligence. Today is the day to observe these animals.

History of Pig Day

In 1972, Pig Day was founded and first celebrated by two sisters by the name of Ellen Stanley and Mary Lynne Stanley, in Lubbock, Texas. An article from “The Virgin Islands Daily News” on Feb 23, 1980 talks about the story of the first pig party, “At pig parties, pink pig punch is served, as are other pork delicacies. Pink ribbon pigtails are tied around trees in the pigs’ honor.”
