Can you imagine a world without sewing machines? It every clothing item had to be sewn by hand we wouldn’t have closets full of affordable clothes that were made quickly and cheaply. The first patent for a sewing machine was awarded in England in 1755. The invention has been growing and improving since then, to become a cornerstone of our modern society. Today, almost all clothes are made with sewing machines, and many other industries also take advantage of the technology as well. Sewing Machine Day celebrates this important invention and all of the benefits it gives us.
