Student Athlete Day is April 6th

Whether you’re in high school or college, student athlete day is a day to celebrate the students who are able to excel not only in academics but on their sports teams as well. This holiday was first created in 1987 by the National Consortium for Academics and Sports to encourage families and communities to help support student athletes achieve success in their various activities and functions. Student athletes are some of the hardest working students in any academic setting and this holiday is a day to thank them for their hard work and celebrate all that they have achieved in their careers so far. 

Student athletes are a prime example of dedication. The fact that they are able to make varsity or play at a collegiate level and make it look easy actually took years and years of discipline and practice. This does not mean that they can dedicate their lives to only doing their sport however. Essentially student athletes are trying to balance their sport that often takes up enough of their time that it can be considered a part time job, along with the various pressures of schoolwork and maybe even an actual part time job. Student athletes have a lot on their plates and taking the time to appreciate all that they do will go a long way. 

Ways to Celebrate Student Athlete Day

We’ve all seen the student athlete memes (maybe even made one or two). Celebrate this Student Athlete Day by sharing some of your favorites with the student athlete in your life. Make sure the memes are appropriate and that the person you’re sharing them with knows that while you may be gently making fun of them, it’s all in good fun. They may even laugh along. 
One of the easiest ways to show support for the student athlete in your life is to go to one of their sporting events. Check the calendar and find a local game, match, or meet to attend. Your student athlete will appreciate having a familiar face in the stands and you may find your new favorite sport to go watch. 

Student athletes often can’t afford new gear due to the fact that they don’t have time to get a job between school and sports and other responsibilities. Show your student athlete your appreciation by buying them new gear so they can continue to perform at their best in the sport that they love. It will help them and make you feel good by supporting their ambitions.
