Sustainable Gastronomy Day is June 18th

Sustainable Gastronomy Day is observed every year on June 18th. Designated by the UN General Assembly in 2016 (A/RES/71/246), emphasizing the need to focus the world’s attention on the role that sustainable gastronomy can play and reaffirm that all cultures and civilizations are contributors and crucial enablers of sustainable development.

Sustainable gastronomy promotes agricultural development, food security, nutrition, sustainable food production, and conservation of biodiversity.

The General Assembly, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) work to facilitate the observance of Sustainable Gastronomy Day, in collaboration with Member States, UN organizations and other international and regional bodies, as well as civil society, to observe the Day in raising public awareness of its contribution to sustainable development.
