Tabby Cat Day is April 30th

Tabby Day is a day to celebrate these beautiful striped cats. While Tabby is not an actual breed, tabbies are very specific cats. They are known to be very sweet and friendly cats. 

Tabby is actually the coat pattern seen in many domestic cat breeds. One thing all tabbies have in common are 3 or 5 vertical lines that appear in an ‘M’ shape on the forehead. There are four common coat patterns on tabbies’ and some variants to those patterns.

1. Mackerel tabby is the most common and looks like tiger stripes that are similar to a fish skeleton pattern.
2. Classic tabby has thick stripes and spots that are marbled swirling into a target or bullseye on the side of the body with striped legs and tails. 
3. Ticked tabbies typically have few or no stripes with agouti hairs and they have the distinctive "M" on their foreheads. 
4. Spotted tabbies have spots and are commonly seen in Bengal breeds

Variant of these patterns include the orange tabby, patched tabby, and tortoisshell tabby or torbies.
