Welsh Corgi Dog Day is April 21

Welsh Corgi Dogs are one of the most popular dog breeds in the world. They are known for their short stature, intelligence, and friendly personality. And the Pembroke Welsh Corgis were Queen Elizabeth II beloved pets which is what inspired the holiday to be celebrated on Her Majesty's birthday. Patti Jewel and Holiday Smart's visionary team voted and designated April 21st to be Corgi Dog Day in 2022 as an Inspiration Holiday.

Queen Elizabeth was always known for her love of corgi dogs. She owned more than 30 corgis during her reign as queen of England. Her Majesty’s first corgi was given to her as a gift by her parents in 1933.

The queen’s corgis are treated like royalty and enjoy lavish accommodations. They have their own bedroom at Buckingham Palace and are fed the finest food. The queen even takes her corgis on vacation with her!

Queen Elizabeth was very fond of her corgis and considered them members of her family. She often spent time playing with them and taking them for walks. Her Majesty even let them sit on the royal throne!

She was survived by her corgis Muick and Sandy, who went to live with her son Prince Andrew and his ex-wife and roommate Sarah Ferguson, Duchess of York.

More About Corgis

Corgi is Welsh for dwarf dog. There are two distinct breeds of Corgis: the Pembroke Welsh Corgi and the Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Pembrokeshire and Cardiganshire are both counties in South West Wales. Welsh Corgis were historically cattle herding dogs as their low height and agility allowed them to avoid the hooves of cattle.

Pembroke Welsh Corgis were first bred in Pembrokeshire, Wales in the early 1900s. The breed was developed by crossing Cardigan Welsh Corgis with other short-legged breeds like the Pomeranian and the Schipperke. Pembroke Welsh Corgi is the Queens breed and is the more popular of the two.

Cardigan Welsh Corgis are larger, both in weight and height and is one of the oldest breeds of the British Isles.

Corgis are one of the most intelligent dogs and are quick learners. They are also extremely loyal and affectionate, which makes them great family pets. They love to be involved in family activities and will follow their owners around with a desire to please. They are social and tend to be behave well in social situations with guests and other animals.

Corgis are active dogs and need plenty of exercise. While they are versatile and can live in different types of settings, they do well in homes with a yard where they can run and play.
